Of Flowers and Time
May. 28th, 2013 12:36 pm My boy is having a really good day so far. I had to keep him with me because his driver was not able to take him to school due to family happenings that she needed to take care of. This means that my boy ended up having to go with me when I did errands (and to run forgotten items to daughter at school). Merlin and I ended up having a small breakfast out during our errands. The Burger King has updated its interior and soda machine since our last visit inside.
This update led to a nice discussion about how decor can have effect on mood. We both liked the sporty-outdoorsy decor that it used to have, which pictures of skiers and equipment from various eras. Being a former ski racer I probably liked the old set up better than he did. He prefers the new modern/retro set up with the sleek circles and stainless steel--very computer-era. I found out that he considers that sort of decor to be soothing and that he feels it helps him focus. Focus is a big thing for him.
After a nice breakfast we went out to finish our errands. Merlin made me stop and go smell the flowers, which were these lovely little yellow irises. It made me realize that, which my classes were in session, I did not often have the opportunity to stop for something so simple. What respites I took were tiny snatched things. Even the rp sessions with my mate, during school months, I knew were likely to be short and snatched (due to the likelyhood of interruptions of my rest time).
This is a nice feeling to be able to take a few moments to stop and smell the flowers, and not have to worry about how much studying I should be cramming into that tiny amount of time.
