progress, chats, and daughter's book too
Aug. 4th, 2013 01:24 pm Selkies' Skins has grown to 99,942 over 31 chapters, and I began on chapter 32 today. Chapter 31 introduces us briefly to Whiskers the Tomtra, and Chapter 32 brings us to the mysterious Mrs. Kitsch. We'll get to explore a bit of how the Makays are connected to the family that used to be the Lighthouse keepers (before the storm destroyed the lighthouse). It will be in either 32 or 33 that Kirsty heads down the well for the landwaters initiation that will prepare her for her summertime quest to Mara's sea temple.
Will her anchor to the land hold her though through those? I know the answer, Vad knows the answer...but I'd better not give it away just yet since this is a story of "how."
Also, Grease Coakes/John Krauss and I had a writing party. It turned into more of a chat about writing session than a writing session, but that turned out to be just fine. We talked about books and some other subjects with some great company. My mate was there for part of it, so that made it even better. The music was even better, Grease chose some great tracks. They were so good that they had my daughter up and dancing behind me before she wandered to her room to play a game or three of League. I was left feeling energized and inspired, and I checked on my son since he'd been quiet, only to find him very studiously practicing his writing. I'd say it was a success, and and even better success than anticipated since it got him writing.
My daughter has also made some progress on her zombie novel. She has the first chapter completed, so I need to fit that into my editing schedule. She's even done a bit on chapter two, and where she intends to take her story is quite different than other zombie tales that I've seen and read. I'm very looking forward to the two of us having that ready for publication.
I can't help smiling at her chosen pen name though. A tribute to her beloved grandfather she says it is. I'm happy that someone is carrying on the name on my branch of the family tree.
